The Rise of cynicism

In this post, I will shift to another interesting topic which is about advertising. As you can tell today advertising is a very big part in our society. It not only sell the product but also draw customers attention to buy and consume their product. Actually, advertising is the process that try to see service and product to customer in the right time and the right place.

Nevertheless, today there are several advertisements that exaggerate the truth since they really want to sell their product without think about customers. So, in today's post is going to be about the topic relating to advertising part. Can you guys guess after we has been studying JM 204 around two months already???? I will give you a minute to think!! hahaha 

............The answer is going to be............
The answer is the "The Rise of Cynicism". The reason that I should this topic since I see the big difference between the advertisement back then and today. It can be said that in the past advertisement is a bit hard sell, on the contrary advertisement is focus on family, atmosphere or certain points more than real product.  I'm sure that you guys can see it right?? Ok, Today the contents about Cynicism will be further discussed below:DD 


It is commonly accepted that advertising is the thing that contain information and offer the quality of the product. In other words, the purpose of advertising is selling all services and making customer satisfied with their product. On the contrary, some companies try to take advantage of customers by give the exaggerate information which create misunderstanding to customers. Consequently, the change of advertising in terms of contents can be related to "CYNICISM".

Let's me explain to you guys what cynicism is.
It is an inclination to believe that people are motivated purely by self-interest. And sometimes people are motivated by exaggerate contents via news and TV advertisement. 

So, I will differentiate between past and today advertising in terms of CYNICISM.

*Back then* the advertising is like a hard sells. They directly sell the product to audience that why producer and customers understand the same thing. When any product on-air via posters, TV advertising and so on. People will definitely understand what the product is about, what is the quality of product and surely what customers will get from the product after consuming or buying it. For example, in the past they want to sell cereals, so they just use soldiers as an example. This is because they try to show that eating cereals every morning will be strong like a soldiers. This is a kind of hard sell in advertising in the part. Additionally, some companies just directly sell it by telling about taste, quality, nutritions or something that customers obviously see via product. 






*Today* ,advertising in this postmodernism is completely different from back then. This is mostly because what producers sell product is totally changed. Today, producers focus more about the things that can attract audience attention to buy and consume their produce more than focus just real product. For example, McDonald show that hamburger is not the only thing that make customers feel happy when they come to their place. But, beyond that McDonald try to portray that their place is suited for family. This is because everyone in family can enjoy eating delicious hamburger and also spend precious time together. It seem like McDonald try to expand their target group not only individual but also a large group of people such as family. Moreover, as you can see from today's society people went to the restaurant just for consuming the atmosphere and taking a photo. It means McDonald try to expand their target group not only individual but also a large group of people such as family. Moreover, as you can see from today's society people went to the restaurant just for consuming the atmosphere in order to take a picture which create the good image for themselves. But do not forget that the main purpose of restaurant is selling foods not only atmosphere. Do you guys think the same as me??? hahaha. Another factor is customers buy product since their idols being a brand ambassador, hence this means a soft sell which producer do not tend to sell product directly. Finally, some companies exaggerate the truth in product. For example, showing the picture which is reproduced by photoshop in order to make their product look so good. But, in reality the product are not the same as their claims. Overall, the advertising in this present time use several strategies to attract audience. As we are one of the customers, we should think clearly before believing what they claim.     



To sum up, advertising back then tend to use "HARD SELL". But, in this present time producers try to use many strategy to sell product that why it lead to the rise of cynicism. So, cynicism in advertising is considered as a false advertising. The owners can be punished according the law. Anyway, I know that in this society the main purpose of doing the business is profits. But it kind of a battle among companies that need to get in to consumer's mind:D

  1. Yes, I agree with you that we are in the era of the soft sell advertisement style.
    It is really hard to identify what the owner what the tell us but it is more appealing in term of artistic.
